Revegetation Services Northern Rivers

Total Environmental Concepts (TEC) provides revegetation services across the Northern Rivers, covering Tweed Shire, Byron Shire, Ballina Shire, Lismore City, Richmond Valley, Kyogle and Clarence Valley. We work with councils, government agencies, developers and private landowners on riparian planting, native revegetation and bush regeneration, backed by the same ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified systems we run across our Queensland projects.

Extending that standard across the border means a Northern Rivers project gets the same site assessment, species selection and monitoring process our Queensland clients already rely on, not a scaled-down version of it.

Riparian revegetation and catchment recovery

Since the 2022 floods, agencies across the Northern Rivers have been running multi-year water, wastewater, drainage and land resilience programs across all seven local government areas. Riparian revegetation is a direct part of that recovery: it holds banks together, slows sediment reaching the water, and rebuilds the vegetated corridors a healthy catchment depends on.

Council planning conditions increasingly require this kind of work as a condition of approval, not as an afterthought. Our riparian programs cover bank stabilisation, buffer planting and staged weed control, sequenced to survive a full wet season rather than wash out after the first one. If a project has a riparian condition attached, sorting out species and staging early saves a lot of rework further down the line.

Native revegetation suited to the Northern Rivers

Few regions pack in as much ecological variety as the Northern Rivers: sandy coastal country around Tweed and Ballina, subtropical rainforest remnants of the old Big Scrub near Lismore and Byron, and everything in between. A seed mix that works on one site can fail completely on the next.

We start by assessing soil, drainage, existing vegetation and whatever conditions are attached to the site, a development approval, an offset obligation, a council requirement, then choose species suited to that specific location rather than a standard mix. Direct seeding, tube stock or hydromulching get selected based on the site itself, followed by monitoring so the planting actually establishes rather than becoming a one-off job.

Bushland restoration and weed management

Lantana, camphor laurel and cat’s claw vine have taken hold across large parts of the Northern Rivers, and clearing them is usually the real work behind any bushland recovery project. Our bush regeneration and bushland regeneration programs manage that weed pressure, encourage natural regrowth, and reintroduce species where a site needs more help than time alone can give it.

This kind of work is rarely standalone. On most sites, remnant bushland sits right next to areas that need full replanting, so bush regen and revegetation typically run as one coordinated program rather than two separate jobs.

Certifications & memberships

Backed by ISO certification and industry membership

Winning a spot on a council panel or a tier-1 contractor’s approved list usually comes down to paperwork as much as fieldwork, and it’s where plenty of revegetation contractors get knocked back. TEC’s Integrated Management System is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and we hold IECA and Master Builders Queensland membership, a decade of Landscape Queensland Industries Association membership, and Local Buy registration.

These credentials aren’t Queensland-only paperwork sitting in a drawer, they’re the same systems we run on every job, including the ones we’re building across the border into the Northern Rivers. It means a project can move from prequalification to tender to delivery without hitting the usual gap between a contractor who’s good in the field and one who can actually clear the compliance side.

Common questions about revegetation in Far North NSW

What's the difference between revegetation and bush regeneration?

Revegetation is the active side, planting new vegetation using direct seeding, tube stock or hydromulching. Bush regeneration works with what’s already there, clearing weeds and letting natural regrowth take over, with replanting added only where the bush can’t recover on its own. On a lot of Northern Rivers sites, particularly where lantana or camphor laurel has spread, you need both running together.

Why is riparian revegetation such a priority in the Northern Rivers?

The region’s catchments are still working through recovery from the 2022 floods, and the condition of the vegetation along a riverbank has a direct bearing on how that catchment holds up, both for erosion and for water quality. That’s why councils and recovery programs increasingly build riparian requirements into approvals rather than leaving them as optional extras.

How long does revegetation take to establish in Northern NSW

Most native revegetation programs need twelve to twenty-four months of establishment and monitoring before survival rates and weed control can really be confirmed. The subtropical climate and rainfall here help things grow quickly, weeds included, so ongoing monitoring matters just as much as the initial planting.

Does TEC service all of the Northern Rivers?

Yes, our coverage runs across Tweed Shire, Byron Shire, Ballina Shire, Lismore City, Richmond Valley, Kyogle and Clarence Valley, for councils, government agencies, developers and private landowners, using the same ISO-certified approach we apply on our Queensland projects.

Does TEC work with private landowners as well as councils and developers?

Yes. Riparian and bushland revegetation are a core part of erosion control and land recovery after flood damage. Get in touch to talk through your site’s conditions and whatever approval or recovery requirements apply.
